The Nanaimo Art Gallery is in the process of establishing an art education program and we want to hear from artists who are experienced and interested in teaching adult art classes and workshops. The aim is to start an adult education program this fall with a variety of interesting one and two day workshops (to be held on weekends) and some ongoing evening classes.
If you already teach a workshop or class you think will be suitable, or have an idea for one you would like to teach, please send a brief workshop or course description and a resume detailing your art teaching experience to lindafindlay@telus.net. Submissions need to be sent in no later than June 15, 2010 in order to be considered for the fall/winter term.

Job description:
The Nanaimo Art Gallery is seeking to add some new artists to their TD Canada Trust Artists in the Schools line up. This is contract work, may be 1 class a month or 30+ - depending on number of bookings by the schools.
The Artist in the Schools program allows teachers across three school districts (District 68: Nanaimo, Ladysmith, Lantzville, District 69: Parksville, Qualicum Beach Nanoose Bay, District 79: Duncan, Cowichan area) to schedule a professional artist to present a classroom art session, introducing the techniques of their chosen medium and providing a hands-on art making experience for students. Teachers can have the artist tailor their presentation to reflect a current classroom subject.
Artists with at least one consistent full day a week availability are being sought in all three districts. Special emphasis on First Nations Art, Theatre, Dance.

The Nanaimo Art Gallery is seeking an Art Education Planner for an internship. This role is located in beautiful Nanaimo, BC, which is located centrally on Vancouver Island. The wage is $12/hour, 30 hours a week for 35 weeks starting May 19th, 2010 and ending January 16, 2011.
The Art Education Planner works under the supervision of the Art Education Coordinator and will be responsible in planning art workshops for our ArtRageous children's summer art program as well as planning a series of summer Art Camps. In the fall the Planner will be working on various workshops
for children/youth and adults as well as assisting the coordinator with the Artists in the Schools program fall semester. This position also requires the successful applicant to give tours of special exhibits to the
community and tourists. Preference will be given to individuals who are bilingual in English and French.
Students from minority groups are encouraged to apply.
This is an ideal opportunity for a post secondary graduating student in the Visual Arts who is seeking hands on experience in the planning of Art Education.

Job description:
Reporting to the Gallery’s Administrative Director, the Art Education Coordinator designs, develops and manages the delivery of a program of art education offerings for the Nanaimo Art Gallery. These offerings will include a range of workshops and training sessions of varying duration in various media offered throughout the year as well as summer art camps and workshops for both children and adults.
Duties:
Art Education Coordinators duties will include:
· Identifying appropriate subject areas for workshops and recruiting workshop instructors with relevant qualifications
· Developing the curricula for Summer Art Camps for both children and adults, adapting and modifying the gallery’s existing curricula where appropriate.
· Recruiting and supervising summer camp instructors with relevant qualifications.
· Coordinating the delivery of the Gallery’s summer camp programs.
· Supervising temporary gallery staff that may be assigned to assist the Art Education Coordinator (Young Canada Works and HRDC Summer Student resources for example)
· Building support for the gallery’s Art Education Programs by developing community relationships and securing sponsorships and in-kind donations
· Working with the Administrative Director to produce marketing and promotional material for art education offerings
Qualifications
· Degree in Visual Arts, education or related arts degree or an appropriate combination of education and experience.
· Experience with organizing educational activities
· Ability to work effectively with artists, the general public and students.
Administrative details
· The position will be a part-time contract for 5 months (May to September 2010) paying $18 per hour
· Funding allows for hours that will average approximately 3 days per week over the duration of the contract. Actual hours worked nay be less than that in May, June and September and more than that in July and August.
· The initial funding for this position has been provided by a grant from the BC Arts Council and the term of the contract may be extended if revenue from the Gallery’s Art Education programs over the initial term of the position is sufficient .

The Gallery Summer Art Education Program Assistant
Anticipated start date May 25, 2010
The program assistant for art education will be responsible for helping to coordinate and conduct a series of art related educational activities at the gallery for both children and adults including workshops, camps and exhibition tours. The ideal candidate would be from the Visual Arts Field of study and would have an interest in the field of art education.
We encourage students with disabilities, aboriginal students and students who are members of a minority to apply.
In order to apply, you must be between the ages of 16 and 30, and be a full-time student intending to return to school in September. Priority will be given to those applicants in a related field of study and/or intending to pursue a career in a related field.
