In 1987 the Nanaimo Art Gallery created the original Festival of Banners. Each spring since then, with the generous assistance of our sponsors, the Gallery has organized the painting of between one hundred and two hundred original works of art which brighten the streets of Nanaimo from late May to September.

Banner artists create these wonderful designs for a 'Gallery in the Streets' for both locals and out of town visitors to enjoy during the summer months.
